A large parcel-gilt wood carving of the votive Immovable Buddha Fudo Myoo engulfed in a raging wisdom fire firmly atop of a boulder. The Angry Buddha is holding a vajra-hilt sword in his right hand that cuts through all negative emotions. In his left hand, a rope that binds men of ignorance, a means by which leads them to enlightenment. Here in his stylistic fierce appearance with bulging eyes fiercely glaring forward, bathing in time induced natural textures from gesso and color ornamentation over a wood core. The Qing antique statue evokes an almost playful state of the Angry Buddha raging with power to conquer the passions in our minds. As guardian of the Buddhist faith, Fudo Myoo is the wrathful manifestation of the Buddha Mahavairocana, One of the Five Great Kings of Light and the Conqueror of Three Poisons. The Warrior Buddha's stance is anchored with unwavering intensity, virile, and sweeping with force. He represents the beginning of the spiritual quest, the awakening of the Bodhicitta 菩提心, and the beginning of compassion.
